Castle Ravenloft WIP01

Castle Ravenloft WIP01

Recently, I had the pleasure of finishing 5e’s Curse of Strahd and after such a thrilling adventure I couldn’t help myself from mocking the castle up in 3D. As I’m sure plenty of other modelers have discovered as they began working on Castle Ravenloft, the grid map supplied isn’t completely accurate. While it does do a good job, the castle artwork doesn’t always represent the grid map, nor does the grid map always follow the logic of the construction (I’m looking at you Chapel).

It’s a perhaps a bit mistaken to simply say “wip02” but here we are. There’s been a massive expansion to this model, from large exterior panel details to individual plate armor as well. One idea I’ve been playing with, is the question of how much of this model doesn’t need to be hand painted- so much as I can create a texture that’s random enough to simulate certain hand painted qualities.

DnD Short Rest #001

Going into this weeks game there’s been a number of new updates. This outlines some of the biggest that will effect your game. Top of the list is new player tokens for city maps; my hope is we’ll all feel a little less lost, when trying to remember where we went on the map. This is especially true for parties that split up; which I always encourage.

Among the various side projects I’m working on, I’ve been dabbling back in 3D animation as of late. Some of you may notice I haven’t updated my TIE Interceptor- but I assure you it’s not for a lack of trying. It appears to be sealed in the hard drive of my old computer. It’s not lost per-say. It just needs to be recovered, which I haven’t had the desire to do yet. But eventually I will and when I do- it’ll be there lol.

Jurassic Park - Isometric Edition WIP03

I can’t begin to explain how excited I am to be nearly finished with this poster. I say this for a few reasons, 1: I’ve been off/on working on it since March, so it just feels great to finally be wrapping this design up. 2: I love Jurassic Park, so this just feels great to work on. 3: I only have a few remaining elements I need to design, namely the Safari Lodge, Power Bunker, Visitor Center, Raptor Pen, Iguanadon Inn and Dr. Sorkin’s Research Lab.

Jurassic Park - Isometric Edition WIP02

Well, I haven’t worked on this design since around March, but here I am finishing it up! I’ve made a fair amount of progress with this poster, having filled out the majority of the Jurassic Park map. I’ve also ditched the pop out elements, since I’m really just trying to wrap this design up. Plus, it allows me to make the map larger- so you really can see some of the fine detail you may have missed otherwise, even in a standard 24x36 size poster. Perhaps in the future I’ll design something else with the pop outs.

All that remains currently is for a number of buildings that need to be built. But I figure with a few more hours of work it should be finished up! Can’t wait, because this has been a really fun design.

Miami Fantasy Map WIP01

Miami-Fantasy_P2.png

I’ve been working on this new idea lately, just a fun little project really to turn real locations; like Miami. Into fantasy style maps. I’ve taken a bit of inspiration from late medieval era maps and paintings and really had a great time taking modern locations back in time.

For this first map of Miami, I’ve been playing with a few different ideas, including how to make what is in real life- one massive sprawling city and attempt to individualize and contain the urban sprawl to smaller communities. It’s been a bit of a balancing act, but I think I’m on the right track. Hopefully with a bit more work it will really begin to come together.

Fantasy has been something that’s interested me for a while, with the joys of D&D, world building and all that goes into it. I may only have one or two more WIPs of this design before I finish it up!

What happened to the AT-ST you may be asking?! Well, it’s sitting on the back burner and I will return to it at some point. Until then, I’ve been working on a new 3D model- the TIE Interceptor. Fans of the TIE series will remember this craft from Return of the Jedi where it made its first appearance.

AT-ST WIP03

It’s been a long time since I’ve gotten a chance to do some 3D modeling, in part because of my computer being a dinosaur (you can donate towards my new computer fund, here)and in part because I’ve been busy with other design projects. So it was a pleasant surprise on an otherwise busy weekend to get a chance to sit down and do a bit of work.

With a lot of work, a massive amount of progress has been made! I’m very excited to see this project draw closer to completion. Not only because I have other projects in mind, but because adding the final touches has been a fun journey.

Metal Gear?! A poster WIP

Reaching back to my youth, it would have to be Metal gear Solid that had some of the most significant impact on me growing up. It’s in part what fueled my interest in science fiction, history and storytelling...

It's been a short while since I've gotten a chance to update everyone on the progress of the AT-ST. But I can at least say there's been some decent progress made. The lower leg joints are finished along with the foot pads themselves.

Now with the TIE Fighter finished, the question has been what my next project would be? Well, for now anyways this is where I've decided to go. This AT-ST is actually a rework of a previously made model that I finished a while back.

I'm nearly there. I feel like I keep saying that- but the rear end is finally complete and work has started on the top hatch. It's hard to gauge exactly how much work is left, somewhere between 1/3 and a 1/4 is finished on the hatch. But either way it likely won't be too much longer before I finish up.

So I managed to sneak in a few minutes of work this morning, which brings this model tantalizingly close to actually being finished. But lets take a look at what happened in this last edit.

Unfortunatly, this morning I only had a little time to work on the model. So I can't claim it's finished yet, though I am slowly creeping my way closer and closer. Probably the most notable difference would be the red engine glow I added.

I'm getting real close to being finished with this TIE Fighter and I couldn't be more excited. It's been a fun ride, but it'll be nice to work on something new. As to what that'll be- who knows! Today's work involved a lot of detailing on the full front of the cockpit, the back and some color variation.

Since the previous update, I've managed to finish off the bottom of the cockpit. Which from what I've gathered may work as a bit of a maintenance hatch of sorts. As a result, the model has been constructed in that if I needed to open and flesh out that area- I could in the future. For now, this will be a strictly exterior shot vehicle.

It has certainly been a while, but I'm happy to say I've been able to put in a few hours of work lately into the long overdue TIE Fighter. While the progress has been minimal as of late, I can say I'm certainly excited to revive this project, in hopes of finally finishing it off in the near future.
